Puppy Love
Like all relationships a strong bond with you dog doesn’t happen automatically, it takes time and effort. All dogs are individuals and enjoy different types of activities. Which activities they personally find rewarding & fun often depending on the breed in question.
Dogs are learning lessons from you and everything around them every minute of the day especially in the first months you spend together.
They will learn how you react to things, and how they respond to your reaction, things that please and displease you, things to be avoided and the things that are great fun.
It’s worth remembering that you are not your dogs owner, you’re their guardian, treat them with tender loving care and respect and ensure all other household and family members do the same.
Watch out for him, learn his body language, try to avoid situations that will make your dog uncomfortable, make sure you get him out of any difficult situation before he feels he has to act in a way that would displease you to get out of it by himself.
Teach rough & tumble play in a positive way to ‘life proof’ him so when someone does step on his tail, or walks into him by mistake he knows that it is not usual behavior and can be fun.
Find out what your dog likes as full body hugs and cuddles are considered rude, in dog society, however a back scratch or ear tickle may just be the ticket for your dog improving the affection and interaction between you both.
The more positive time you spend together the deeper your love for each other will be.
Our team at Noah’s Ark Pet Shop and the One Stop Dog Shop are always available for advice, and we love your dogs ‘almost’ as much as you do.
